June is Mens Mental Health Awareness Month. Educate yourself this month on how to recognize Mens mental health signs, what to say to a man about the mental health, and how to access resources that help you help them or help themselves.
There is still time take the necessary steps to participate in becoming more aware of Mens Mental Health.
While mental illnesses affect both men and women, the prevalence of mental illnesses in men is often lower than women. Men with mental illnesses are also less likely to have received mental health treatment than women in the past year. However, men are more likely to die by suicide than women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Recognizing the signs that you or someone you love may have a mental disorder is the first step toward getting treatment. The earlier that treatment begins, the more effective it can be (National Institute of Mental Health, 2022).

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual assault affects everyone. Every 68 seconds, someone in America is sexually assaulted and a child is sexually assaulted every 9 minutes (RAINN, 2022). The goal for this month is to inform you of the resources available with one in particular focusing on rideshare safety. According to Helping Survivors.org, 2022, there were 3,045 sexual assaults to occur in 2018 that was reported in Uber’s 2019 safety report. Bringing awareness to this specific unfortunate situation is progress in eradicating the problem.

I was "MLK Day 2022" years old when I learned about his attempted suicide. According to various reports, 2022, Martin attempted suicide at 12 years old because he was distraught over his grandmother’s death. The first thing that popped into my mind was "What was his Mother thinking and feeling?" She had just lost her Mother and then her son had attempted suicide. I would imagine her healing process was ongoing. As the Mother of African American son(s), the healing process is ongoing. The injustice we as African Americans experience as a community is unbelievably challenging along with the addition of being a Mother. However, we know we must keep moving forward and onward in the pursuit of happiness.
The best part of the featured quote is “keep moving forward”.
