A few weeks ago, Think Big Radio invited me to their Become A Guest segment. The segment interviews leading professionals who are considered “BIG Thinkers” broadcasting internationally. I was given the opportunity to share information about the Mothers of AAMM, Inc. mission to help the community in the healing process derived from being an attempted suicide survivor or suicide survivor. I share my story as an attempted suicide survivor on the following link: https://thinkbigradio.uk/.

How we talk or don’t talk about suicide matters. Suicide can be prevented with a conversation, both verbally and nonverbally. Simply taking the time to listen intently without saying anything yet physically being in tune to the individual is a start. Other times saying something like “I’m concerned about your well-being and I can see you are experiencing some difficult times…” will be efficient in letting the person know you are paying attention to them. Your attention and language can prevent the person from harming themselves.
Mothers of AAMM if you want to know more ways to talk to your sons joins us for our monthly Mothers Helping Mothers Heal conversation. Visit mothersofaamminc.org to sign-up Hello! Check out our “Donate” button. Your donation will help Mothers of AAMM, Inc. through support mechanisms and resources.
We appreciate you! Mothers of AAMM, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization that aims to serve the community through support mechanisms for Mothers of African American Male Millennials and mentoring programs for the Mothers of AAMM offspring. Mothers of AAMM, Inc.'s goal is to support one another as Mothers of African American male millennials who may have or is currently experiencing disheartening hardships due to their son’s unfortunate life happenings especially in circumstances revolving around the son’s attempts or success to end their own lives. The support of one another as Mothers of African American male millennials will entail being a confidant during unfortunate situations by contributing to creating a safe space for the Mother to release their exasperations with fellow Mothers of AAMM member. Also, the Mothers of AAMM goal is to provide mentoring to younger Mothers of AAMM offspring. The mentoring program will pair an elder Mother of AAMM with a Mother of AAMM offspring for guidance and introspection involving their own son’s life. Activities would include fundraising events and mentoring programs that will occur several times throughout the year.
